Lavender Teas: Stress Relief in a Cup

Lavender Teas: Stress Relief in a Cup

This tea comes from fields abound with beautiful hues of blue and purple, enticing in their sweet, floral aroma, helping you to relax and unwind.

Let’s meander through these blossom-filled meadows together, stepping into new endeavors, and learning more about the best lavender teas to enjoy!

What Does Lavender Tea Taste Like?

Have you tried lavender tea before?

Or have you simply enjoyed its fragrant aroma and been fully seduced?

Lavender tea is as delightful, calming, and lovely in taste as it is in smell. There are many types of lavender but not all of them are used for tea. Some are used for extracts and soaps, while others are predominately used for cooking and sipping.

English lavender, or Lavandula angustifolia, is commonly used in tea. Lavandin, or Lavandula intermedia, is a hybrid cross between English and Portuguese lavender is also used.

Did you know Lavender belongs to the same family as mint and sage?

English lavender has the sweetest taste and is the most ideal for drinking. Some lavender, especially the kind used in fragrances, can taste a little soapy or overly medicinal if there's too much in your tea, so it's important to know what you're getting! A little lavender also goes a long way, so we carefully balance it with other flavors.

As I like to say, what you smell is what you "taste," in a way. Lavender tea tastes sweet and floral and depending on the blend of what it is mixed with, the accompanying notes really bring forth the natural essence of this herb.

Through the Fields of Lavender: Organic Lavender

Whether you’re new to Plum Deluxe, or a long-time lover of our family, all of our ingredients are natural, organic, and wildcrafted.

When it comes to lavender, we went right to the source, the founder and chief tea maker of Plum Deluxe to find out where we source our lavender: Oregon!

Since Plum Deluxe originates from Oregon, it can’t get more native, more natural, more wildcrafted, and organic than this, can it? Right from our own backyard, this herb is picked fresh and hand-blended in small batches to bring you the best tea imaginable.

A Few Sweet and Floral Tidbits

Are you wondering if lavender tea is just dried lavender? Does lavender tea have caffeine? Does lavender tea make you sleepy?

These are a few sweet and floral tidbits we’re going to answer right here, so look no further.

When you’re brewing up a cuppa lavender tea, the beautiful mauve purple or blue buds you see are the buds of the lavender plant. They’re dried (sometimes fresh) lavender flower buds that are then steeped in hot water to create your lovely tea. You can brew lavender on its own, but lavender teas are typically a blend of a more traditional tea like our Delightful Morning blend or a blend of herbs, like Meadow Walk herbal tea.

Lavender is a naturally occurring caffeine-free herb, which means you don’t have to worry about any of those (possible) caffeine jitters or be wary of late-night sips that may cause you to lose sleep. In fact, lavender has the opposite effect on your mind and body, causing you to naturally unwind, into a peaceful state, reconnecting with your innermost self.

Lavender itself doesn't make you sleepy or directly impact sleep quality (it's a prominent feature in many good breakfast tea blends!), but it's a wonderfully relaxing stress-reducer that often finds a home in your favorite sleepytime teas.

It’s always the perfect tea choice if you’re needing some good TLC!

A Mindfulness Approach

As mentioned above, lavender is a great remedy for the mind and body. Did you know, there is a proven link between scent and emotional well-being?

When you smell something soothing, something pleasant, it stimulates your olfactory senses. This then sends a message to your brain to relax. This is why lavender is so great for helping someone ease stress and anxiety, and enter into a more relaxed state of mind. It’s that mind-body approach that soothes your nerves and gives you an overall ‘breath of fresh air’ feeling. A place of calm in the middle of a storm. A little sanctuary.

Being self-aware of what causes stressors in your life, as well as what can aid in helping to relieve some of these, can help improve your own mind-body connection, thus creating a more peaceful state of mind.

Lavender is a great drink to enjoy before bed and is known to help with stress, easing you into a healthy and good night’s sleep.

This herbal tea encompasses a base of both rooibos and green rooibos tea with a lovely array of chai spices, real coconut, and of course, fresh lavender. It has all the right flavors and hits all the right spots: floral, sweet, and a bit spicey. It’s great as a cold brew over ice and we love it with a little honey, too.

Lavender Daydream White Tea

You will most definitely find yourself in a daydream when sipping on a cup of this fruity and floral infusion. Mango, peach, lavender, and rose harmonize to create a superb blend of aroma and flavors.

A dash of honey is a wonderful companion if you’re looking to add a touch of something sweet. You also don’t have to worry about too much caffeine, as white tea is low in caffeine and won’t upset your body. It makes for a great evening delight!

Easy Like Sunday Morning Herbal Tea

Honeybush and cocoa nibs are paired with fresh Oregon lavender to create our Easy Like Sunday Morning herbal tea. There is something absolutely tantalizing and enticing about chocolate and lavender when paired. The chocolate is rich and decadent, and the floral pop the lavender adds is simply astounding.

You must try it for yourself! It also goes great with a little splash of milk. Yum!

Calm Chamomile Bloom Herbal Tea

There is something so drawing, so natural, so soothing about this blend that I go bananas for it. Chamomile and lavender tea, with rose, crisp lemongrass, and fresh lemon balm, balanced with earthy green rooibos make for a truly amazing cuppa!

Looking to reset and reconnect with Mother Earth? How about recentering and finding your inner calm? This tea will take you to a place where you can do just that!

I enjoy this tea just as is, but if you’re looking for a little something extra to bring out the complexity of the layers, a bit of honey will do the trick.

Meadow Walk Herbal Tea

Ever heard of a blueberry rooibos herbal tea? How about one with rosemary?

Well, you’re in luck and in good company when you walk with me on this little endeavor to learn more about our Meadow Walk herbal tea.

Using green rooibos as a tea base, we added in a trio of blueberry, lavender, and rosemary to create a simple and artful creation that is easy and breezy.

May it send you off to faraway places and ease your worries!

Delightful Morning Blend

As mentioned above, we like to source locally, and this is no exception when it comes to sourcing for our Delightful Morning blend. We started by using Oregon lavender from the flower festivals we visited during the spring and summer.

With a combination of bergamot, vanilla, and lavender, it adds the perfect balance to the black tea base. It’s an amazing Earl Grey lavender tea to enjoy iced, hot, or as a latte!

If you love it as much as we do, but need to avoid the caffeine, it now comes in decaf as well!

‘Vista Blend’ Herbal Tea

What is your favorite thing about nature? What view?

One of my favorite times is the week in spring when all the small leaves on the trees go from tiny closed buds to full open leaves. It’s like the world blossoms and unfurls and everything is new and good again.

This tea was inspired by one of our favorite things about nature—the views. Reminding you to look around, wherever you are, and take in each moment. There’s always beauty to be seen.

Honeybush, Oregon lavender, and apricot essence make for a trinity of calm. It’s great as a cold brew with a dash of honey. I recommend you try some today…and make sure to enjoy the view!
