We throw salt into our food almost without thinking, but what if that salt could pack in even more flavor? The addition of spices and herbs can take your meals from “yum” to “wow” in seconds.
Just as with sugar, almost anything can be added to salt, so think about what you cook most often. Is it a certain kind of meat? Pasta? Do you have a penchant for Mexican or Italian cuisine? Once you have that down, think about the flavors that best complement those foods. For Italian it might be rosemary and basil; for fish it might be paprika or pepper.
Now, mix those herbs and spices into some salt ahead of time so it’s all ready for your next cooking endeavor! If you store your mix in a sealed bag or container, it should stay fresh and tasty for a long time.
Herbed Sea Salt
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried savory
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a resealable bag or container. Seal, then shake well to mix.
To use: Sprinkle over fish, poultry, meat, or soups to season. Absolutely fantastic on roasted chicken.
In the bath tub, infused salts can be used to create a wonderful soak to soothe sore muscles. Choose ingredients that will promote relaxation, such as lavender and chamomile, or that have health benefits for the skin, like tea.
Relaxing Bath Soak
- 1 cup epsom salt
- 2/3 cup sea salt
- 1 tablespoon Cuddletime Sleepy Tea
In a food processor or coffee/spice grinder, grind tea until fine.
In a resealable bag or container, mix epson salt, sea salt, and ground tea. Seal and shake well to combine.
To use: Pour about half a cup of salt into running bath water. Soak your cares away!
