Blue Iced Tea: Butterfly Pea Flower Latte
Summer is a time of magic. A time of adventure, energy, and endless sunshine. It is also a time for iced drinks. So lift your spirits with a blue iced tea latte (or purple iced latte, if purple feeds your soul) that is not only beautiful, but deliciously tasty, and also…magical! Whip up an iced butterfly pea flower latte and harness the magic of summer!

Butterfly Pea Flower Blue Iced Tea: A Blue-Tea-Ful Brew

If you’ve never heard of Butterfly Pea Flower Tea, you’re in for a treat! It is a uniquely awesome tea that turns BLUE when you steep it. That’s right…a naturally occurring blue beverage in the world. Look out, every other tea! There’s a cool kid on the block.
If that wasn’t interesting enough, Butterfly Pea Flower Tea also is a wizard amongst teas. It transforms itself from blue to PURPLE with nothing but the addition of a little citrus. Wingardio-levios-yum!
In the summertime, iced tea latte recipes abound—tropical iced teas, iced chai lattes, iced Thai Tea cocktails—but this butterfly pea flower iced latte sets itself apart from the crowd by sheer force of personality.
While Butterfly Pea Flower on its own has a mild, almost grassy flavor, Plum Deluxe mixes it up with a lively medley of fruits and florals for a brew that is positively bursting with flavor!
Magical Butterfly herbal tea takes the naturally earthy (and beautifully colored) butterfly pea flower and combines it with a cornucopia of fruits including apple pieces, strawberries, raspberries, and orange peel. A bouquet of hibiscus, blue cornflowers, Melissa leaves, and lemongrass provides punch and nuance, and a creamy splash of vanilla essence rounds out the blend. It is mouthwatering, perfectly balanced, and all-around delightful.0
Magical Butterfly tea is sure to enchant tea drinkers of all ages! Its approachable flavors and eye-catching colors make it a perfect tea for a birthday party or tea party for children or teens! You can even work a little chemistry lesson into the festivities and teach them about pH and viscosity if you’re feeling up to the challenge.
I generally like being dazzled by the magic, but there’s something to be said for understanding the science. And for the grown-ups in the audience, Magical Butterfly herbal tea also makes a truly tasty sangria!

Blue Iced Tea: Let’s Latte!

Whether you’re in the mood to be entranced by a blue iced tea latte or enraptured by a purple iced latte, a butterfly pea flower latte is the way to go!
Whipping up this bewitching brew couldn’t be simpler. You can cold-brew your tea for four to six hours or overnight if you’ve got the time. It does take planning, but the process is as easy as it gets! Simply combine one to two teaspoons of loose-leaf tea and eight ounces of liquid in a mug, and let it rest in the refrigerator. Once the leaves have had time to mingle and work their magic, strain them out, and you’ve done it!
If you don’t have the time to cold-brew, brew up a strong cup of tea by steeping one ounce of loose-leaf in four ounces of boiling water or hot milk.
Once the leaves have steeped, add a handful of ice cubes and stir to cool the liquid. I like to stir using my infuser for extra flavor! (Assuming you’re using tong infusers rather than a nest infuser.)
If you like a really milky latte, cold brew or steep your leaves entirely in milk and skip the water altogether. Any type of milk will do—coconut, almond, soy, oat, any variety of cow’s milk—each one will add its own unique dimension to the flavor of your latte.
Play around with ratios of water to milk to find your ideal combination!
In my opinion, a Magic Butterfly latte is lovely all on its own, but you may like a bit of sweetener to enhance those fruity flavors. And of course, a luscious burst of lemon or lime juice will activate those captivating color-changing properties to transform your blue latte into a purple latte right before your eyes! The zing of citrus lends a touch of brightness to the tea that is lovely, but be sure to add just a couple of drops, or your milk will curdle!
Make yourself a butterfly pea flower latte any time you need a little extra magic in your life, or are simply craving a latte with pizzaz, flavor, and joie de vivre! These lattes are especially Instagram-worthy, so snap a picture and tag us @plumdeluxe. We’d love to see what you’re drinking!
Cheers, friend!
