Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer Recipe

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer Recipe

It wouldn’t be fall without pumpkins. They’ve become synonymous with this time of year, when the leaves turn to rich bright colors and crackle underfoot. Perhaps your favorite part of fall is the abundance of pumpkin spice treats. Plum Deluxe has some wonderful fall tea flavors, such as Pumpkin Spice, Apple Cinnamon Warmth, Full Moon Chai, and Autumn Almond Chai — to name a few.

In honor of these beautiful teas, we thought we’d show you how to really up the autumnal flavors with this simple homemade pumpkin spice creamer recipe. If you’ve never made a flavored creamer before, today is the day to learn something new!

Essentially, a flavored creamer is milk or cream that has been infused with the flavor of your choice. We’ve talked about one method of how to do this before. Today’s recipe can be adapted easily by swapping out the flavoring ingredients.

Why Use a Flavored Creamer?

Using a flavored creamer is a fantastic way to add milk or cream to your tea without dampening any of the flavor. You can subtly alter the flavor of your cup of tea depending on what you’ve infused your creamer with.

Today we’ll be making our own pumpkin spice rather than buying one from the store. You probably already have these spices in your cupboard at home, so you’ll save yourself some money! You will need ground cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, ground allspice, and ground cloves.

While making this pumpkin spice creamer recipe, ensure the heat is on a low setting to prevent the milk or cream from heating too rapidly and curdling. By heating the milk slowly with the spices on the stovetop, the flavors are released into the milk or cream and become concentrated in what is technically known as a decoction.

When having your tea, add your homemade creamer as you normally would and enjoy the subtle hints of pumpkin spice.

Pumpkin Spice Creamer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 cups milk or cream

Directions:

Mix all spices in a bowl together. Set aside.

Add milk to a saucepan on the stove with heat on low.

Add spices into the milk and stir. Allow milk to continue to heat for around 10 minutes, then remove from stove.

Strain milk through a fine sieve or muslin cloth to remove any large pieces of spice. As we’ve been using ground spices there shouldn’t be much that is removed.

Place milk or cream into a jug and cool in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

This recipe is easily adapted, so you may like to try making an infused milk using your favorite tea as the flavoring ingredient. You could even use our Pumpkin Spice black tea, which has real pumpkin flavor as well as spices. Experiment and enjoy! I have found this is a nice way to change the flavors of hot chocolate and carry across some of those yummy tea flavors, as well.
