This breakfast tea is how Plum Deluxe folk like to start their day. The earthy base of black tea and honeybush tea helps center you; the ping of orange helps wake you and get you excited about today’s possibilities. It’s a simple tea and yet it is rich with subtle flavors.

Hazelnut — in its oil essence form — has tons of great anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits, as well as vitamin E. Paired with some orange, you’re getting a true boost from this tea in every cup. The nuttiness also mimics the nuttiness of coffee — perfect if you’re trying to quit that morning cup of joe!

About the Tea Maker

I'm Andy Hayes, founder of Plum Deluxe and chief tea maker. Please allow me to walk you through the process I use to create the unique tea blends you'll discover being a Plum Deluxe tea drinker. While you may be envisioning lab coats and a giant factory with stacks of ingredients and curious equipment, the Plum Deluxe studio in Portland, Oregon is decidedly more low-key.

I start with an intention in mind - a great tea to sip while reading a book, the perfect tea for cheering on a holiday celebration, an ideal tea for serving after a big meal. I draw upon my intuition and years of experience to blend up 2 or 3 different "test teas."

Using ingredients from around the world, our flavors are often informed by our love for the Pacific Northwest. Examples of this can be seen in our limited-edition Portland Rose City Chai and the best-selling Oregon Breakfast Black Tea. Next, I steep, sip, review, adjust, repeat. Teas that pass muster often go out to a small group of "tea testers" for further evaluation. Only the best teas are hand-blended in larger batches for our Plum Deluxe customers.

Fantastic tea

Warm, Rich, Comforting

The hazelnut flavor and aroma is warm, rich, and comforting. It is robust enough for a second, even third, steeping. It's delicious hot and cold.

Perfect blend

This is one of my all time favorite teas. I often start with the caffeinated and switch to this for the second (or third!) cup in the morning, but it’s even lovely in the evenings. I love that they use honeybush tea instead of a decaf black tea. The taste is a little different but it doesn’t bother me. I love love love it!


Can Decaf really fill that Hazelnut jones? Yes!

Honeybush, orange peels, hazelnut essence, steeped into a gorgeous dark chestnut colored liquor. Robust, a little natural sweetness. Orange peels balance but does not dominate the flavor- that would definitely be hazelnut, front & center. If ever a tea was made for an iced latte, this is it. I was loving the first  steep, hot, way too much to experiment. But for the second steep, brewed 2x strength and steeped longer, then a splash of milk & maple syrup over ice and it was beyond perfect!
