Hi! I’m Andy Hayes, founder of Plum Deluxe and chief tea maker here at our Portland studio.

Maybe you were envisioning a squad of lab-coated technicians inside a giant factory? Stacks of raw ingredients piled next to curious equipment?

Our process is decidedly more low-key — and definitely more personal.

Every time I blend a new tea, I like to start with an intention for how you might enjoy it. For example…

  • Keeping my intention in mind, I draw on my years of experience to blend up 2 or 3 different “test teas”. Then comes the fun part: I steep, sip, review, adjust, and repeat.

    The teas that pass muster during this exacting process often go out to a small group of “tea testers” for further evaluation.

    Only the best teas make it to the final step: being hand-blended in larger batches for our Organic Tea of the Month Club members.

    What kinds of flavors can you expect? While we use ingredients from around the world, our flavors are often informed by our love for the Pacific Northwest — for example, in our limited-edition Portland Rose City Chai, and our best-selling Oregon Breakfast Black Tea.

Why only 1 or 2 teas?

We don’t overwhelm you or your tea stash. Instead, we only send you the best of the best: one unique, perfectly balanced tea that you’ll never find anywhere else.

Sure, there are other tea subscriptions that will send you 4, 5, 6, even 8 teas a month.

But we promise they won't be as high-quality (can you say "powdery"?).

Our teas are meticulously crafted and hand-blended fresh each month. You can enjoy original recipes made in-house just for you by our expert blenders, like Peach Mandarin Oolong, French Tart (lemon apricot), and Waterfall Garden (blackberry jasmine).

We focus on quality, so that you know every tea you get from us is worth making time for (and a little space for in your pantry!).

Each month you'll get enough tea to make at least 15 cups.

What if I get tea I don't like?

If you happen to receive a tea that doesn't align with your preferences, please don't hesitate to contact us at hello@plumdeluxe.com. We're committed to working with you to find a suitable replacement that better suits your taste buds. Or, we have a monthly tea swap in our Facebook group where you can trade the tea you don't like for one you know you do. Additionally, if there are specific ingredients you'd like us to avoid in your future shipments, please share those details with us, and we'll make sure to note them on your profile!

How does my tea get chosen?

No robotic algorithms here! Andy chooses and blends a selection of unique teas for the month. Then a real person takes any allergies or dislikes into account and chooses a seasonal tea that will delight your senses!

I'm allergic to caffeine/hibiscus/etc. How customizable is my subscription?

We want you to make sure you love every month’s tea without spoiling the surprise – which is why we remember exactly what you like. Set your ingredient preferences or sensitivities when you sign up, and we’ll make sure you never receive a tea with those ingredients.

Won't I just end up with loads of tea sitting in my cupboard?

We don’t overwhelm you or your tea stash. Instead, we only send you the best of the best: one (or two, depending on your subscription) unique, perfectly
balanced tea that you’ll never find anywhere else. Your package will contain a minimum 1 oz of tea, enough to make about 15 cups. And, as you build the healthy habit of tea drinking, we're sure you'll want even more!

Where do you get your ingredients from?

We only use natural, organic, and wildcrafted ingredients from family farms we know and trust. We take the sourcing of our ingredients and our responsibility to the planet and our supply chain very seriously.

Is your packaging recyclable?

All of our packaging is as simple as possible — eco-friendly, 100% recyclable. We want your tea to arrive to you safely, without harming the planet.

Do I have to be a tea expert to join the Tea Club?

Not at all! Inside each monthly package you'll find the story behind your tea, so you can learn more. And our site is full of interesting information, helping you learn more about how to enjoy the perfect cup — your way.

Can I skip/pause/cancel my membership?

You can skip/pause or cancel your Tea Club membership at any time. Simply log in to your My Account page and navigate to the My Tea Club tab.

How will I be billed?

Recurring subscriptions are billed at the interval you choose (monthly, quarterly, or annual) from your initial purchase date. And we know nobody likes money surprises, unless they’ve just won the lottery. So if you ever have questions about your renewal, email us at hello@plumdeluxe.com
