Alternative body treatments such as Reiki, Kinesiology, and Acupuncture can seem a bit strange when you first hear about them, but with a bit of research it’s amazing to discover that variations of these seemingly modern treatments have been used successfully by different cultures for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Used in conjunction with traditional medicine, these treatments can help ease stress, heal from trauma, and get the body into a place of strength and health so it’s not as susceptible to illness.
As with any body treatment choice, be sure to check with your doctor before starting. Since every body reacts uniquely to treatments, it can be helpful to try several different ones to see which one works best for you.
Kinesiology is a non-invasive energetic healing science. In the 1960s Dr. George Goodheart, DC discovered that muscle testing could be used first to gather information from the body and then to restore balance and health to neurological and physiological function.
Stress and trauma can create imbalances in the body, ranging from nutritional and psychological to emotional and spiritual, which result in things such as disease, severe pain, and learning disorders.
Kinesiology identifies the cause of any imbalance and resolves it, enabling the body to function properly and start the healing and thriving process.
Reiki is a spiritual healing practice based on the belief that a strong life force energy heals while a weak one causes illness. Through a type of energy massage, many patients have found significant relief from mental and emotional stress.
While some proponents attribute physical healing to the process, results have shown it to be most effective for providing relief from anxiety, depression, and stress, particularly for people dealing with debilitating illnesses such as cancer.
Acupuncture has its roots in ancient China and is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical practices in the world. It can be traced back over 4000 years and is based on principles unique to Oriental Medicine that allows the acupuncturist to assess and adjust the flow and distribution of the body’s energies to promote health and healing.
Of all the alternative therapies, acupuncture is one of the most thoroughly researched and documented. It is a virtually painless procedure involving the insertion of extremely fine needles into the body surface at acu-points along the body’s meridians. Modern research has shown that acupuncture points have certain electrical properties that, when stimulated, alter chemical neurotransmitters in the body. Physiological shifts follow with an increase of the body’s natural painkillers, hormonal activity, anti-inflammatory agents, and immune system functions.
It has been successful in treating everything from migraines and PMS to fertility issues and the side effects of cancer treatments. It is also helpful in easing back pain and allergic reactions, treating strong fevers and viruses, and reducing fluid retention and high blood pressure (and comes highly recommended by many on our Plum Deluxe staff!). No matter what your ailment might be, acupuncture is a proven treatment for pain and illness that will help get you back on your feet.
